Die Serie „Signalfarben“ besteht aus im städtischen Raum gefundenen, unterschiedlichen Beschilderungen. In einem ersten Schritt schliff ich die Oberfläche der Schilder ab. Den jeweiligen Schleifstaub verwendete ich dann als Pigment und stellte daraus in Kombination mit Acrylbinder neue Farbe her. Die so entstandenen Farbtöne, trug ich danach wieder auf die leeren Schilder auf.

In meiner Arbeit wird die Botschaft jedes bearbeiteten Schildes, auf einen einzigen Farbton reduziert und so zusammengefasst. Dadurch kommt es zu einer Umcodierung und zu der Übersetzung von Schrift und Symbolen in Farbe. Die ursprüngliche Information, wird dabei in eine monochrome Farbfläche umgewandelt.

 

The series “Signal Colours“ consists of different street signs that I have found in the urban space. In a first step, I sanded off the surfaces of the street signs. Then I used the dust that I extracted in the sanding process as a pigment and produced new paint out of it in combination with acrylic binder. Afterwards I applied the thus created shades to the empty signs.

In my work, the message of every sign I worked on is reduced to and thus summarised in one single shade. What occurs through this is an instance of recoding and translation of writing and symbols into colours. Thereby, the original information is transformed into a monochromatic colour surface.
