„From Something to Nothing“ ist das filmische Portrait eines 2021 gerodeten Waldstücks in Ehrenfeld (OÖ) – eines der größten Waldvernichtungsprojekte der Region. Dabei war es mir ein zentrales Anliegen, auf konventionelle Erzähl- und Darstellungsformen zu verzichten. Statt einer dokumentarisch- realistischen Herangehensweise wählte ich eine abstrahierende Bildsprache, die nicht auf Wiedererkennbarkeit oder Faktenvermittlung zielt, sondern auf Wahrnehmung, Irritation und emotionale Resonanz.
Über 3000 fotografische Aufnahmen der einzigartigen Rindenmuster der Bäume des später zerstörten Waldes, bilden das Rohmaterial. Durch eine Frame- by-Frame-Animation entstanden abstrakte, fließende Loops, die eine tranceartige Wirkung entfalten und den Wald visuell „zum Sprechen“ bringen. Ziel war es einen Erfahrungsraum zu schaffen, aus dem neue Perspektiven auf das Verhältnis zwischen Mensch, Umwelt und Verlust hervorgehen können.

Teaser "From Something to Nothing"
“From Something to Nothing” is a cinematic portrait of a forested area in Ehrenfeld (Upper Austria) that was cleared in 2021—one of the region’s largest forest destruction projects. It was essential to me to avoid conventional narrative and representational forms. Instead of a documentary-realistic approach, I chose an abstract visual language that does not aim for recognizability or the delivery of facts, but for perception, disruption, and emotional resonance.
More than 3,000 photographic images of the unique bark patterns of the trees—later destroyed—form the raw material. Through frame-by-frame animation, abstract, flowing loops emerged that create a trance-like effect and allow the forest to “speak” visually. The goal was to create an experiential space from which new perspectives on the relationship between humans, the environment, and loss can emerge.
